McCrimmon Family Journey

Our journey into foster care began in 2021 and Covid made a straight path to the finish line more of a winding road. After stopping half-way through in-person classes and starting from the beginning online we finally arrived as a licensed foster family in the late fall of 2021.

We experienced many temporary and respite placements in the beginning and shortly thereafter received more permanent placements. The excitement of helping families as they figure life out was so exciting and fulfilling. We enjoyed providing a safe and loving home for these babies as they grew and experienced many firsts. What we quickly learned is the need to be organized, flexible and rely on our community around us for support. So many ups and downs and emotion filled days as we watched our babies deal with the trauma of being torn between families and not being able to verbally express their emotions as they were so young.

We've laughed, we've cried, and we had unforgettable family experiences along the way. Fast forward a year into our journey our family permanently grew by one through adoption and at the same time we dealt with great loss as another foster love was reunited with their parents.

Foster care is so amazing and being a part of a child's life at any stage is an indescribable feeling but foster care is also hard! Completely pouring your everything into a tiny human to meet all their needs then to lose them is grief that you can try to remedy but is almost impossible to prepare for. Oftentimes people say if you experience this feeling then you are doing something right. We are so grateful for these experiences and are happy to continue our journey by continuing to support our community and through foster/adoptive/kinship care.

This journey has been exhilarating, exhausting, emotion-filled but nothing short of amazing and we would continue to do it time after time again!
