Foster Family Alliance of NC Extends Heartfelt Thanks to Donors for Hurricane Helene Support Amidst Unprecedented Need
November 7, 2024– The Foster Family Alliance of North Carolina (FFA) is deeply grateful to the individuals, organizations, and businesses whose generous donations have helped foster families impacted by Hurricane Helene. As the state faces a staggering $53 billion in damages and over 126,000 homes affected, the contributions of our donors have been essential in supporting the 2,773 foster children in the 25 Western North Carolina counties declared disaster areas.
"The devastation left by Hurricane Helene has impacted so many lives, including my own," shared Gaile Osborne, Executive Director of the Foster Family Alliance of NC, who was also displaced during the storm. "The support we've received from our community has been overwhelming and heartening. Each donation has given foster families, including me, hope and the strength to begin rebuilding."
The storm's aftermath, including 1,400 landslides and extensive damage to infrastructure, has intensified the challenges foster families and caregivers face. In a time of significant need, the community has come together to provide vital resources, from diapers and baby formula to financial support, helping to bridge gaps and offer relief.
Key donations that have made a critical difference include:
Aetna — $18,000 in supplies
Community of Care North Carolina- $15,000 donation
Healthy Blue — $20,000 for housing and immediate needs, plus $15,000 for clothing donations
Lanto Griffin- $10,000 donation
Open Hearts for Orphans- $10,000 donation
Thompson's Child and Family Services — $10,000 for training and foster parent support
